About

The words came with you.

Affrimations is a hub for positive affirmations in African languages — a morning line in the language you grew up hearing, with the English underneath so nobody is shut out.

Most affirmation apps offer one language, and it is rarely yours. This is the place for the rest. Short, sayable lines in the languages spoken across the continent and the diaspora, said slowly, one morning at a time.

Every line here is kept short on purpose. Short is easier to remember. Short is easier to say while your mouth is still learning the shape of it. And short is easier for a fluent speaker to correct. This is not a dictionary — it is a handful of sentences you can carry.

How each one is made

The same four rules apply to every affirmation on the site, in every language.

The language leads

One line in the language, first person, present tense, four words or fewer. English is the second line, always — never the first.

A speaker checks it

Nothing goes up on the strength of a dictionary. Someone who speaks the language reads it first.

The translator is credited

Whoever gives us the words is named. The knowledge belongs to the person who carried it here.

Diacritics are not optional

Yorùbá tone marks and every accent are set correctly, or the line does not ship.

A channel for every language

Each language runs as its own channel, with its own deck and its own thirty cards. Your language is not a category inside somebody else's app.

Say hello.

If you speak one of these languages and something here reads wrong to you, tell us. Corrections are welcome, and the person who gives them is credited.
